#TBT – Cult Classics
This week we’re going back to 1994 with some classic Clerks. For anyone who’s ever had a really, really bad day at work! ‘I’m not even supposed to be here today!’
#TBT – Cult Classics
This week we’re taking it back to 1985 and the classic Truffle Shuffle scene from one of our all-time favorite films, The Goonies.
As if that’s not enough Goonies for you. Check out our Goonies related facts:
The Goonies is 30 years old this year. Wow. Feeling old?! Ever wondered where the cast are now? Catch up with the Goonies 30 years on!
According to Sean Astin, he took the prop map as a souvenir after filming ended. However, his mom threw it away, mistaking it for rubbish! Gutted.
When Data screams “Holy S-H-I-T!”, he spells the word rather than saying it, because he made a promise to his mother not to use bad language in the movie. How sweet.
John Matuszak who plays Sloth, had to sit for an uncomfortable 5 hours in make-up, each day! That’s dedication.
One of Sloths eyes was operated by remote control off screen. The other eye was his own. Matuszak had to blink in synchronization with the mechanical eye, so a member of the crew would count down in order to get the timing right.
One Eyed Willy’s pirate ship took 2 ½ months to construct. It was modeled on Errol Flynn’s ship in the movie The Sea Hawk. It was 105 feet long and the largest sale measured 30ft by 60ft. Impressive.
The ship was scrapped after filming. It was offered to anyone who would take it. Unbelievably, there were no takers. Really?!
In the final scenes when the Goonies are reunited with their parents, some of the actors real families played extra’s. Chunk’s mom is played by Jeff Cohen‘s real-life mother.
Some of the crew members also got in on the act. Assistant Director Richard Donner plays one of the cops on a scooter in the final scene. With Richards assistant, Jennie Lew Tugend, playing Data’s mom. Mouth’s father was played by one of the cameramen and another played the dead man in the freezer.
The Mayor of Astoria (where the movie was filmed) officially declared June 7th “Goonies Day” during the 25th Anniversary Celebrations in 2010. Who wants to live in Astoria?!
Goonies Never Say Die.
