"I have decided not to participate in any other motorsport for the rest of my life. It is not justice, but simply the right thing to do." One day after his disqualification from the Karting World Championship, Luca Corberi issued a statement where he not only apologized for his behavior, but also announced his retirement.
The 23-year-old Italian had lost any chance of victory on the tenth lap of Sunday's decisive race after an incident with his compatriot Paolo Ippolito. Frustrated by his abandonment, he waited for a new step from his rival's car to throw a piece of his kart at him. In addition, after the checkered flag, he attacked Ippolito, 16, in the paddock of the Lonato circuit.
"When the commissioners called me, I asked them to withdraw my license, because I was fully aware of my irreparable mistakes. However, as they later showed me, they do not have the power to do so," adds Corberi in his letter.
"I WRITE TO ASK FOR FORGIVENESS"
Corberi's father, one of the most responsible for the Lonato track, where his son was facing his first World Championship final in the KZ category in the last three years, would also have participated in the aforementioned paddock incidents.
"There is no excuse for something so shameful, something I have never done in my 15-year career. I hope that no one else sees it in the future," says the Tony Kart Racing team driver, the same as Spanish Pedro Hiltbrand. "I do not ask for indulgence, because I do not deserve it. I will fully agree with the punishments that are imposed on me. I write this to ask for forgiveness, even if it is not enough," Corberi emphasizes.
On Monday morning, the International Federation (FIA) announced the first steps of its investigation, while Felipe Massa, president of the karting commission, described Corberi's behavior as "unacceptable" and clarified that it would have "consequences".
Formula Four: starts a fifth historical season
The Formula E World Championship of electric cars will start a new season, the fifth, this weekend. And it will do so with many changes: new car, new drivers, new manufacturers ... This is a season that promises to be exciting.
The FIA electric car World Championship, Formula E starts its fifth season. From Saturday, December 15 to July 14, a total of 13 races will take place on 4 different continents, in which the main protagonists will be the new cars, capable of playing a full race with a single charge of their batteries.
There are many changes presented by a category that is going to more, which is gaining adherents in every way: in the form of world-class drivers, car manufacturers eager to gain experience with electrification (and strengthen their ecological image) , seating cities that want to host careers in their urban centers and sponsors, increasingly numerous in Formula E created by the Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag.
In the new season of Formula E, the second generation of the car racing protagonist will be released, which promises to be between 3 and 4 seconds faster. A totally different racing car to the one that disputed the first four campaigns, both in dimensions and design: they are 160 mm longer (up to 5,160 meters) and 10 mm narrower, but with widened tracks on both axes. The weight has also grown: 900 kg, which means 20 kg more. The batteries weigh 385 kg (+65 kg), but now they have enough capacity to make a full run. Each test will now always last 45 minutes plus one lap, contrary to how it was done so far, that each go kart circuit had certain turns.
The cars will continue to have many common parts, allowing the manufacturers and equipment involved to contain the costs and the organization to have a more equalized and competitive category. The chassis has been developed by Dallara, the batteries are of McLaren origin (before Williams) and the design of the new bodywork is the work of Spark Racing Technologies. Here the change is substantial: the design is much more aggressive, without the traditional rear wing in the rear, with a large diffuser and already with the karting integrated Halo (with LED lights). However, as Pedro Martínez de la Rosa (technical and sports advisor of the Techeetah team, this year associated with DS) recognized us, “the aerodynamics in these cars is irrelevant, almost nil”. The drive train, capable of recovering between 15 and 20 percent of the battery's electrical energy, is responsible for each equipment. Thank you for checking out our 4 seater go karts for sale page.

Álex Palou debuts at Indycar: “I want to be the rookie of the year” (interview)
About to turn 23, Spanish pilot Álex Palou starts the "American dream" and debuts karting this weekend at the Indycar.
Fernando Alonso will contest the Indianapolis 500 with the Arrow McLaren SP team. At just 22 years old, Álex Palou can boast of having run in Europe in categories such as the Euroformula Open, GP3 or Formula 3, as well as in Japan, where he was about to be champion of the Super Formula in his first year there in 2019 The Barcelona player changes continents again to debut in the benchmark category of North American single-seater motorsport, the Indycar.
This weekend he debuted in Saint Petersburg (Florida) with his new team, Dale Coyne Racing. It will be his first race with his new Indycar number 55, with which he will participate the entire season and, of course, in the legendary 500 Miles of Indianapolis. He himself tells AUTOPISTA his impressions prior to the championship.
Question: I imagine you are very excited about what lies ahead ...
Answer: I am super excited. Indycar was something I wanted to do for a few years, when I started doing Formulas, and even before, seeing how karting difficult it can be to get to F1 and seeing other options that are outside of it. The United States was a country that attracted me a lot, due to its culture and the format of the championship… It was like a goal and a dream, and we have been able to fulfill it.
Q: What goal do you set for your first season?
A: It is difficult to say because we have had very little time with the car. We are missing kilometers, but the championship is long, the car can be competitive and we have to take advantage of those races where it will go better and where I will feel more comfortable. The goal is to be the rookie of the year, both in Indycar and in the 500 Miles. This year, in addition, karting there are quite a few novice pilots and in good teams, so it will be valued more.
