Emirates cargo division will promote the flow of cargo throughout this year 2020
Emirates SkyCargo, the cargo division of Emirates, will promote world trade and cargo flow in 2020 and in the coming years through a combination of innovative product development and investment in adequate infrastructure.
Emirates SkyCargo's unwavering commitment to “Delivery as promised” has been reinforced since 2018 through the application of the Cargo iQ framework. Emirates SkyCargo has established a Cargo Operations Control Center (COCC) operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which monitors the progress of shipments using predetermined targets from admission to delivery. In 2019, the airline monitored more than 1.5 million shipments using Cargo iQ guidelines and ensuring that the cargo that has a direct impact on the lives of people around the world was transported and delivered on time.
Nabil Sultan, senior vice president of the Emirates Cargo division, said “The global air cargo industry witnessed the challenges presented by 2019. Economic uncertainty, tensions in world trade and disturbances in some key markets negatively affected Cargo volumes However, the difficult market conditions were an opportunity for us to review our offer and ensure that we remain market leaders with our range of specialized products, superior capacity and infrastructure, as well as our agility to respond to customer demand.
Emirates Delivers is a new e-commerce platform that allows consumers, both individuals and small businesses, to buy products at any online retail store based in the US. UU. and receive them in the UAE. Emirates Delivers is part of the general strategy of Emirates SkyCargo to promote Dubai as a fulfilment e-commerce center for customers based in the Middle East, the rest of Asia and Europe. In 2020, the availability of Emirates Delivers will be expanded to more markets.
Other products in the Emirates SkyCargo portfolio had a strong performance despite difficult market conditions.
More than 400,000 tons of perishable products were transported on Emirates flights under the umbrella of Emirates Fresh, the specialized product of Emirates SkyCargo for perishable products. In November and December 2019, the airline operated nine charter flights from Santiago, Chile, exclusively to transport cherries.
Nearly 11,000 priority shipments traveled across the six continents with the Emirates AOG product during 2019.
Annual increase of 6% in the volume of goods of great value that were sent with Emirates Safe VAL, the product of Emirates SkyCargo for the transport of goods of great value.
A 12% increase in demand for Emirates Pets, the product of Emirates SkyCargo for the transport of domestic dogs and cats.
In addition to its regular passenger and cargo flights, Emirates SkyCargo offers customizable and flexible charter solutions for its global customers. With an agile and responsive team that works to meet customer requirements and perform operations in a short period of time, the airline has been able to operate about 370 charters during 2019. Charter operations have helped transport a wide variety of cargo , from relief materials for natural disasters and concert equipment to flowers and other perishable products.
Adequate infrastructure and capacity
In 2019, Emirates SkyCargo presented a new handling center dedicated to pharmaceutical cargo at the Chicago airport, one of the most important pharmaceutical stations for Emirates SkyCargo worldwide. The center, certified under EU GDP guidelines, has temperature controlled zones for admission and delivery, accumulation and decomposition of pharmaceutical cargo, storage and direct access to ramp.
